Those who want to discover the Minoan civilisation (often called as "the oldest civilisation of Europe") will find an ideal place to stay in our area: Phaistos archaeological site, the second Minoan site in importance after Knossos, is just some 6 km from Kalamaki. Agia Triada archaeological site is just a few kilometres further. Some 20 km from Kalamaki is Gortyna (mainly Roman) site.
Besides, the surrounding villages hide churches and monasteries dating back to byzantine times (Agios Pavlos in Agios Ioannis village, Valsamonero, Amari valley, Moni Odigitrias, etc.).
